Existing Domestic Properties (DEA) Scheme

It is the role of the DEA (Domestic Energy Assessor) to produce EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates) for existing properties, for inclusion within HIPs (Home Information Packs). EPCs are generated by inputing information gathered at the property into an accredited RDSAP (Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure) program.

The data must be collected in person at the property in question by the DEA to ensure that the information gathered is accurate and recorded to the required assessment standards. This role does require a degree of physical mobility, as DEAs must inspect loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, etc, as well as take measurements in a variety of situations on site, which can include restricted or elevated locations.

With the introduction of the EPC as a mandatory requirement, the 1.5 million homes annually placed onto the market will lead to a demand for between 3000 to 4000 DEAs, further increasing in 2008, when both private and social rented accommodation will also require EPC certification. There is a potential for excellent earnings for a qualified DEA. Stroma offer DEA training courses across the UK and Northern Ireland, we are City and Guilds regiested to provide you with the best possible service in your new career path.

The work will be generated by various client groups. To begin with, EPCs will be commissioned by Estate Agents, Home Information Pack Providers and private vendors. In due course, when social and private rented properties also require EPCs, local authorities, registered social landlords and private landlords will also be commissioning work.
